Without the unconditional support from our Ambassador H E Ajai Malhotra, I wonder I may not be able to return back to India after finding an end to all these struggle we went through" said Lijimol with a smile on her face after a long two year. After a horrible span of two years in her life, Lijimol George finally gets justice, thanks to the Indian Embassy and all other officials involved.
It all started in 2008 when Lijimol George, an Indian nurse, requested for a leave from her work place due to some health problem. Lijimol was employed at Talal Clinic in Shaab. Her sponsor Dr Talal Sulaiman Falah Al Ali, who ran the cosmetic clinic allegedly, turned down her leave application, forcing her to continue working under unfavorable health conditions. On Dec 8th, Lijimol had to be rushed to the hospital when she was found unconscious at the clinic. She suffered a miscarriage. She was advised 45 days rest by her doctor. But her sponsor keeps on harassing her and insisted to resume work despite being told of her medical condition. Lijimol decided to resign from the job and submitted her resignation letter, which was also denied by her sponsor. He did not even ready to return her passport. It was then she and her husband approached the Indian embassy in Kuwait seeking help for the recovery of passport from Dr. Talal - her sponsor.
In December 2008, Indian embassy tried to persuade Dr Talal to resolve the matter amicably, but he refused to cooperate and instead filed a forgery case against Lijimol and consequently a travel ban was imposed on her. Later he filed a fake promissory note case also against Lijimol. Angry sponsor subsequently filed four more cases against Lijimol with further travel bans. Case after case is being filed against her. She was forced to sign on many papers written in Arabic without knowing what is written in that.
Understanding the sad plight of Lijimol, Indian embassy appointed a lawyer to fight against the sponsor at embassy's cost. Ambassador HE Sri Ajai Malhotra took up the issue to the higher authorities in Kuwait. He raised the issue to the Ministry of Interior, Foreign Affairs Ministry and Ministry of Social Affairs and done everything possible to get justice to Ligimol in diplomatic level. "Without the support of H E Sri Ajai Malhotra, it won’t be possible for us to get justice" Jinesh, husband of Lijimol told IIK.. Court ruled out the absconding case and promissory note case made by the sponsor as baseless. It was last week the final court hearing. Court finally dismissed all cases charged against Lijimol. "Last day was the final hearing on the defamation suit charged by the sponsor. We are sure that the court will rule out that case also" said Jinesh.
"Many associations and friends helped us financially and other ways during our hard time" Mr Jinesh, husband of Lijimol told IIK.” My colleagues in my work place always supported me by planning my shift duty accordingly. There was a time when i thought that i may lose my only job due to these sufferings we had to go through our life" Jinesh who is working in catering industry said to IIK. In political level also we got good support from Kerala Opposition leader Sri Omman Chandy. We also met CPIM state leader Sri Pinarayi Vijayan during his visit to Kuwait. They all promised their full support and took the case to the India Government and Indian Embassy thereafter. In reply to my father’s letter to Prime Minister Sri Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister promised us that Indian Embassy in Kuwait will take care of the issue seriously and promised justice to us.”Everyday Ambassador used to call me directly to guide us and to give necessary instructions” recalled Jinesh . "We are thankful to all who stand beside us in our hard time" Lijimol and Jinesh told IIK. "I want to tell all my Indian brothers and sisters not to sign any Arabic paper unless you clearly understand what is written in that" said Lijimol.
